Apparantly (according to Buurcule) buildings in the city level get smashed down in a similar fashion to Muscle Tower in Tenkaichi 3, that they fall down in stages depending on where you hit it.
Me and my brothers have been playing Final Fantasy Dissidia for a while now, and we've realised that it is soo much more Dragonball Z than Raging Blast. There is so much stage destruction and so many craters and other awesome effects. If you sword touches or slashes any of the stage objects you can see the cut marks! You can destroy rubble that has flown off an object you just destroyed!
Here's a sample of some Dissidia stage destruction and craters (couldn't find one with mass destruction, but shows a lot of cool effects)
