EDIT: I guess this can be ignored now, but I'll leave it up anyhow.
Hey there. I'm new, so I don't know if this is the place for such posts, but don't hesitate to lead me in the right direction if I'm wrong.
After recently reviewing the Tenkaichi 3 roster and the majority of movesets, I came to the conclusion that three attacks for some characters just doesn't cut it. So I devised a more-or-less-efficient plan (because of the space required) to help relive the Dragon Ball experience to a fuller extent.
Each character is assigned a single slot during character selection, and once selected a group of related characters will become available. For example, Goku will be the first in the line-up, and from there you can choose Kid, Adult, GT, and so on. However, rather than one Kid Goku for Dragon Ball, one Goku for Dragon Ball Z, and one Goku for GT, you break it down further by sagas or films, giving players a more diverse movesets. Super Saiyan 3 Goku never used Super Dragon Fist against Janempa, so why can we in the game? I want to use his moves from the movie. By giving characters, for example, Goku (Fusion Reborn) and Goku (Buu Saga), we can make the game more like the series by assigning saga-specific movesets, including costumes and throws. However, this can be bent to include multiple sagas, if necessary. There's no need to have duplicate characters and movesets, so something akin to Goku (Emperor Pilaf-The Tournament Sagas) has also been taken into consideration.
I've gone through whatever parts of the series I own and created a fairly detailed list of fights and their respective fighters, but only included fights that contain more than a simple punch, or in which both opponents demonstrate at least two distinct abilities. This is to remove characters with little to no signifigance to the story mode. Along with the fights are conditions which the players must meet in order to progress, from as simple as "Defeat your opponent!" to "Finish Turles with a Spirit Ball!"
I will post examples of any of the above if requested.

Sorry but that's for if there's a BT4. We're trying to make something that's more like the Budokai Series.

How sad. Oh well, maye I'll think of something for the Budokai series later on then. Thanks for letting me down gently. (No such thing back at the Atari Forums!)

Actually, Ben. This game's engine is based more on the Tenkaichi series but taking a lot things from the Budokai games into it. Welcome to the forum, Mikah. I actually like the way BT3 has it set up. If we had it the way you have suggested there would be like over 20 Goku's.

But by removing characters such as Mecha Frieza and King Cold, along with many other characters that never fight but are added for the sake of it, you have a lot more room for expansion. At the very least, characters should be given either increased movesets as far as finishers go, or the option to set moves and abilities, much like the Budokai series, prior to a fight.

Welcome to the forums Mikah's . Well, what you said its completely true, however removing a character to add another form of Goku, its a liitle pointless (Like removing mecha frieza to add another Goku). Thats another thing we are trying to avoid. You should check the characters database to see how we have worked the characters . We have managed to "adapt" abilities to whichever form the character is using, thus not creating problems with not used abilities on certain forms. You mentioned also that "Super Saiyan 3 Goku never used Super Dragon Fist against Janempa, so why can we in the game?", Well thats one kind of limitation of what the user can do in-game, so we are trying to give the more freedom as we can, without braking the balance, and keeping true at the series. In the story mode sure you wouldnt be capable of, that one of the pourposes of the capsule system, and how the story mode works. BTW, that list you said you've made about every fight, could came very handy, as we are trying to do one, but its unfinished. Thanks for giving your ideas, keep it up!!

Thanks for giving your ideas, keep it up!!My ideas were made with Tenkaichi in mind, hence the Goku-Janempa thing. My list is far from complete as well, since I don't record absolutely every fight and I don't have the whole series (as I mentioned earlier), but just let me know what you need and I'll work my magic.

Hi Mikah, welcome to the forum. I think Camarinox summed it up quite nicely, but to explain a little further, I reccomend you read through the database, especially the System Database. More directly, I think it would be most beneficial, and you'd be most intrigued, reading this topic about Character Customization. It's a unique system I originally thought up and the members here and I developed further into something that solves everybody's problems. Our system allows 1 form of character (1 Goku, 1 Vegeta, 1 Piccolo), however not counting the different forms of them as they age, for example, Kid Goku, Adult Goku and GT Kid Goku are still separate, and King Piccolo and Piccolo Jr are still separate. However, each character will have (even if they have to unlock a few) multiple capsule trays to equip the moves they want, effectively allowing the player to setup the same character from different periods in the anime. Read through it and you'll see that it allows what you want plus negates the need for character copies. Enjoy your stay Mikah!
